Halo Report to track angel investments
|

|
A new quarterly report will track angel investments in early stage companies, starting in the second half of this year.
The report, dubbed the Halo Report, is a joint venture of New York VC tracking firm CB Insights, California-based venture bank Silicon Valley Bank, and the Angel Capital Education Foundation (ACEF), a Kansas City, Mo. not-for-profit spinoff of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. It was announced in a press release this morning.
It joins a similar report on angel financing, published twice yearly by the University of New Hampshire Center for Venture Research. CB Insights founder Anand Sanwal said while the UNH tracks angel financing in aggregate via surveys of investors, the Halo Report will provide data on individual deals and companies, via “bottoms-up” information gathering based on deals and dollars invested. “It will be very similar methodologically to how VC tallies are done today,” he said in an e-mail.
Sanwal said the three organizations have not yet determined what period will be included in the first Halo Report.
The last UNH report, issued in October, tracked a decline in angel investing in the first half of 2010 - to $8.5 billion - a 6.5 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2009. However, the number of companies backed by angels increased, compared to the year-ago period - by 3 percent, to 25,200.
